  • Wait until the dough is completely cool before storing. This helps it not dry out.
  • Use sealable plastic sandwich baggies for each color so they don’t bleed together.
  • Vegetable oil can be used in place of canola oil at a 1:1 ratio. You can also get away with using olive oil.

CUSTOMIZATION PLAYDOUGH IDEAS:

  • Glitter & Glam: Mix in some glitter for a sparkly effect. Great for making playdough jewelry or magical creatures.
  • Essential Oils: A drop of lavender or eucalyptus oil can turn playdough time into a calming sensory play session. Make sure you follow instructions and use the recommended amount.
  • Play with Textures: Add small beads, rice, or even pom poms for a fun textural experience.

Safety and Storage Tips

  • Cool Before Use: Make sure the playdough cools down to room temperature before handing it to small children. You don’t want them burning their hands!
  • Airtight Storage: Store your finished playdough in an airtight container or a ziplock bag. This keeps your soft playdough fresh and prevents drying.
  • Shelf Life: Homemade play dough can last for a couple of weeks. The easiest way to revive your playdough if it starts to look a little dry is to knead in a bit more oil.
